The ASHRAE Philippine Student delegation, composed of Mechanical Engineering iTamaraws and students from different universities, was named Champion in the cultural presentation competition of the ASHRAE Region XIII Chapters Regional Conference in Malaysia.
iTamaraws, together with representatives from De La Salle University, University of Santo Tomas, and Mapua University, conceptualized and choreographed the folk dance Carinosa and a banner dance to showcase Filipino culture to the guests from other countries.
It bested the performance of students from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Myanmar
Aside from the cultural presentation, the students attended a technical seminar that discussed the emerging technologies in the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) industry.
While in Malaysia, iTamaraws and faculty advisers Senior Director for Engineering Dr. Manuel Belino and Engr. Anjo Ramirez, took the opportunity to discuss faculty research and student internship program with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur. UTM is a research-intensive university in engineering, science and technology.
Dr. Belino and Engr. Ramirez also met with officials of UTM’s International Office, the Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics, and the Malaysian-Japan International Institute of Technology. They were given a tour around the campus and their impressive robotics laboratory.
