Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering

General Description of the Program

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering (BSCpE) is a program that embodies the science and technology of design, development, implementation, maintenance, and integration of software and hardware components in modern computing systems and computer-controlled equipment. This program will produce computer engineers who are versatile and knowledgeable in computer science and electrical engineering, as well as in the foundations of mathematics and sciences. Also, computer engineers are expected to be life-long learners to maintain their knowledge and skills within their chosen discipline.

Program Educational Objectives

Three to five years after graduation, the Computer Engineering alumni shall have:

  • Engaged in the practice of Computer Engineering or technopreneurship and innovation.
  • Assumed significant roles with key responsibilities in their workplace.
  • Involved themselves in professional, socio-civic, government, or non-government organizations.
  • Demonstrated continuous professional development through certifications, attendance to training, seminars, and conferences and/or pursuit of graduate studies in engineering or related fields.

Program/Student Outcomes

  1. Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural science, engineering fundamentals and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  2. Conduct investigations of complex engineering problems using research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of information to provide valid conclusions.
  3. Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design systems, components or processes that meet specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  4. Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams and in multi-disciplinary settings.
  5. Identify, formulate, research literature and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.
  6. Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.
  7. Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  8. Understand and evaluate the sustainability and impact of professional engineering work in the solution of complex engineering problems in societal and environmental context.
  9. Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change
  10. Apply reasoning informed by contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to professional engineering practice and solutions to complex engineering problems.
  11. Create, select and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools, including prediction and modelling, to complex engineering problems with an understanding of the limitations.
  12. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering management principles and economic decision-making and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Track Electives

Internet of Things (IoT) & Data Analytics

Internet of Things (IoT) is the concept of a giant network where interrelated computing devices, objects or people can transfer data over the network without the need for human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction. Analytics, on another note, is the science of analyzing raw data, interpreting its meaningful patterns, aiming to provide meaningful insights to improve a business or a process.

The BS Computer Engineering program, major in IoT and Analytics prepares students to be skilled professionals in the world where anything can be connected will be connected. This specialization will provide students a depth-track on Identifying problems that might be addressed by IoT Technology and Data Analysis to provide useful information and aid decision-making.

Network Administration and Cybersecurity

Network Administration is the discipline of administering and managing computer networks that includes provisioning of networks, performance management, troubleshooting, and sustaining the reliability of a network. Cybersecurity goes hand in hand with Network Administration as it is the practice of protecting the digital platforms from theft or damage. With technologies continuing to evolve and emerge over the years, and with cyberattacks on the rise, cybersecurity has become more important than ever.

The BS Computer Engineering program, major in Network Administration and Cybersecurity prepares students to perform a wide-array of tasks in the day-to-day operation of networks and cybersecurity. This program will shape them into highly effective future network administrators and cybersecurity experts who are critical thinkers, problem solvers, and innovators.

Digital Electronics Laboratory

The Digital Electronics Laboratory caters to students taking up digital electronics courses. It is equipped with tools and equipment for performing experiments in basic and advanced electronics, microprocessors, microcontrollers, and robotics. The laboratory can accommodate a total of 40 students with ample tools and equipment for eight groups.

The laboratory is equipped with the basic hand tools such as long nose pliers and wire strippers, tests equipment such as digital multimeters, oscilloscopes and digital storage oscilloscopes, digital electronics trainers, robotics trainer kits, and microprocessor/microcontroller trainer.

Network Laboratory

This laboratory is for students taking up the Networking course track. It simulates Local Area Networking (wired and wireless) as well as Wide Area Networking services and connectivity to be able to deploy client/server networking applications and systems. It also uses Desktop-based platform and Server-Based Platform for instruction. The courses taught and simulated in the network laboratory follows the curriculum of the industry-recognized network leader Cisco. FEU Tech is currently a Cisco Networking Academy.

A maximum of 20 students per networking class are allowed to use this laboratory. The activities done here are all hands-on networking activities and PC configuration activities and are recommended to be taught in a small class size setting.

Network/PC Assembly and Troubleshooting Laboratory

Aside from being a network laboratory, this is also a PC Assembly Laboratory. It simulates LAN operation to be able to install and configure different networking services as well as assemble and troubleshoot a computer system.

A maximum of 20 students per networking class are allowed to use this laboratory. The activities done here are all hands-on networking activities and PCconfiguration activities and are recommended to be taught in a small class size setting.
