TechX: The Human Side of FinTech Highlights People-Centered Innovation for a Digital Philippines

October 28, 2025

The FEU Tech Innovation Center (FTIC) recently convened students, industry leaders, policymakers, and ecosystem partners for TechX: The Human Side of FinTech, an immersive gathering that underscored the idea that meaningful digital transformation begins and ends with people. Designed as a platform for dialogue and reflection, the event explored how trust, collaboration, and human-centered design are shaping a more secure, inclusive, and resilient digital financial ecosystem in the Philippines.

As digital financial services continue to play a growing role in everyday life from payments and banking to entrepreneurship and public services, the conversations throughout TechX emphasized that innovation must extend beyond technology itself. Speakers and participants alike highlighted that platforms and systems alone are not enough; true progress lies in how people understand, trust, and responsibly use digital tools, and how institutions work together to ensure no sector of society is left behind.

A defining moment of the gathering was the keynote address delivered by Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Henry Aguda, whose message resonated deeply with both students and professionals in attendance. Drawing from his personal experience as the son of a public school teacher who served for 35 years, Secretary Aguda reflected on the values instilled in him from an early age, values that framed education not merely as a path to personal achievement, but as a lifelong commitment to service. His story reinforced the idea that leadership in the digital age must be grounded in empathy, responsibility, and purpose.

Addressing the next generation of innovators, Secretary Aguda emphasized that building a future-ready and digitally empowered Philippines requires more than technological advancement. It demands trust, inclusion, ethical leadership, and human-centered design. He reminded participants that innovation should always be anchored in shared purpose, ensuring that digital progress benefits communities across different backgrounds, regions, and socioeconomic conditions.

The discussion also brought attention to nationwide initiatives that place people at the core of digital innovation. Secretary Aguda highlighted efforts to expand public Wi-Fi access and digital upskilling, enabling more Filipinos to participate meaningfully in the digital economy. He also stressed the importance of strengthening cybersecurity through Oplan Cyberdome, a national initiative focused on protecting critical digital infrastructure and safeguarding citizens against evolving cyber threats. His statement, “A well-informed citizen is a protected citizen,” echoed throughout the event, reinforcing the idea that digital resilience begins with education, awareness, and collective responsibility.

Complementing these insights were perspectives from leaders across the financial and innovation ecosystem, who collectively explored how confidence in digital finance is built through collaboration. Industry, investment, and regulatory representatives discussed the shared responsibility of financial institutions, startups, policymakers, and investors in fostering trust within the digital financial system. Conversations centered on the importance of transparency, strong governance, consumer protection, and responsible innovation in building solutions that people can rely on.

Panelists also emphasized that inclusive innovation is essential to the future of FinTech in the Philippines. Digital financial solutions, they noted, must be designed to address the needs of underserved and unbanked communities while maintaining robust security standards and regulatory compliance. By aligning innovation with policy, ethics, and user experience, the ecosystem can create financial tools that are both scalable and socially responsible.

Throughout the event, a consistent message emerged: digital transformation is not solely about technology, but about people, how they interact with systems, how trust is built over time, and how innovation is guided by empathy and accountability. The discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration across sectors and the role of education in empowering individuals to navigate an increasingly digital world with confidence.

For students in attendance, TechX served as a valuable window into the real-world challenges and responsibilities of building digital solutions. Many left the event with a deeper appreciation of the ethical dimensions of technology and a clearer understanding of how their future roles—as technologists, entrepreneurs, policymakers, or innovators, can contribute to a more inclusive and secure digital economy.

The FEU Tech Innovation Center extends its sincere gratitude to all speakers, panelists, students, and volunteers who made #TechXFinTech a success. As part of FTIC’s broader mission, the event marked another meaningful step toward nurturing innovation that is not only technologically advanced, but also deeply human, inclusive, and impact-driven,  helping shape a digital Philippines led by informed, empowered, and responsible citizens.
